Went there for a special occasion with friends for their wedding anniversary so did not say anything at the time but the sea bass that l had was very small served with sliced potatoes which were rock hard plus poor quality peas there was no lemon. The other meals were below average. I am sorry but l would not go back or recommend the Fat Abbot.

Staying at the hotel right next to the pub and had a really lovely evening meal. The staff were so lovely. I had the ham hock terrine starter which was so tasty & then I got the beef bourguignon as my main. My main was perfect. SO delicious. I have never eaten kale before but I ate the whole lot! The beef was perfect; mash & the dumpling were incredible. If this was my local, I’d be back here very quickly.
Dietary restrictions: They had a clear structure on the menu for gluten free, etc.
Parking: We’re guests at the hotel but there was some parking outside the pub.
Kid-friendliness: They had a kids menu

Amazing place for an evening meal. The food was tasty. The staff were very welcoming and were great in the way they interacted with our young grandson. The chocolate brownies were amazing!

Great atmosphere, lovely staff, comfortable, warm, friendly. The food was delicious. Between us we had chicken liver pate, ham hock terrine and chicken skewers with a very hot sauce. All very nice. The PAYE could do with an extra slice of bread as there was so much. ( But we could have asked)
Fish, chips and crushed peas (the best chips) ox cheek, very good, melted in the mouth.
Beef bourguignon. With a chive dumpling, very chivey. But lovely.
Delicious sticky toffee pudding. And Eton mess rhubarb and custard.
Definitely return. Very good.

Fully reccomend this gastro pub! We walked in on spec after visiting York for the day and it was on wsy back to Hollicarrs Holiday Park. Food was very nice: prawn cocktail, salmon bites, ox cheek & duck break all very yummy meals! So thank you for accommodating us at short notice. Servers were also friendly & gent behinf the bar was great for advising us on a taxi to get back. Cheers 🍻

That was one of the best Mixed Grill's I've ever had in my life. Fantastic produce, no cheap rubbish. Compliments to the Chef and all the staff at the Fat Abbott. Thanks guys. Incredible food and service.👌👌👌 X

Food was really good quality and amazing value. We were staying in the area and liked that you could book a table online. Pleased we visited as one of our favourite meals since staying in York.
Wheelchair accessibility: We had a mobility scooter and it was very easy to use around the premises.

Have visited here before and by the sounds of other reviewers the feelings are mutual. The service was really really poor, almost to non existent. It was like a chore staff visiting your table and when they did visit to clear items, your drinks, no matter how much was remaining would be taken away… The food was very mediocre and wholly overpriced, it was a real disappointment. Any requests were met with the most could not be bothered attitude and the main bar tender man was very rude and unhelpful. All in all I do not recommend this location and has really fallen short of expectations in comparison to previous visits over the years.

The steak was very good. The service was a bit sad the man that served us never smiled infact they all looked as if they didn't want to be there. The girl behind the bar Danielle was the only one with a smile .
